About
The
Green Resource was founded in 2004 by David Long of
North Reading, Massachusetts. Long graduated with
honors in Biology from Williams College. After
attaining his Masters in Entomology from the University
of Maine, studying the effects of biological control
on Colorado Potato beetle, he started his career as an
environmental consultant. He has since served
as a Research Associate and Green Team Leader for the
Institute
for
Healthcare Improvement in Boston as well as a Research
Assistant for the Silent Spring Institute in Newton,
MA.
Inspiration for The Green Resource has come from many
sources. The work of Alana Probst and the Oregon Marketplace,
as described by Steve Lerner in Eco-Pioneers, first exposed
us to the concept of import substitution. Our library
consists of other great works detailing economic renewal
and environmental sustainability, including:
The
Ecology of Commerce by Paul Hawken
Natural Capitalism by Paul Hawken, Amory Lovins, and
Hunter Lovins
Small is Beautiful by EF Schumacher
Going Local by Michael Shuman
Cities and the Wealth of Nations by Jane Jacobs
Biomimicry by Janine Benyus
