Import Substitution for Purchasers

There are three goals to The Green Resource's import substitution services:

1. Save you, the purchaser, money
2. Boost the local economy by keeping money local
3. Reduce environmental impact by cutting the distance items are shipped

Here's how it works:

1. You, the small, local business owner, provide us with a list of items, along with unit cost and quantity, that you purchase from out-of-state vendors in the course of a year. You might choose only the most costly items for your list, but really anything you have historically purchased from out-of-state is a fine candidate for import substitution.

2. The Green Resource will conduct market research - free of charge - to find in-state alternatives for these items you usually purchase from out of state. Our goal is to find a supplier who is geographically closer to you AND who can provide the same or better quality product to you at a lower cost. Ideally, we will identify products that are better quality, lower cost, and environmentally preferable

3. After completing our research, we compile a report for you to examine. The report details the items that are ideal for import substitution, along with a breakdown of your potential savings and an indication of environmental savings as well.

4. You choose which items you'd like to pursue for substitution (or not), then The Green Resource will broker the deal(s) between the supplier(s) and you.

Import Substitution for Suppliers

The Green Resource works with you, the local supplier, to find local vendors in need of your products. We aim to:

1. Increase the volume of your local business
2. Boost the local economy by keeping money in the community
3. Reduce environmental impact by cutting shipping distances for purchasers

Here's how it works:

1. Small, local business owners contract with The Green Resource to substitute products they normally purchase from out of state, with products they can purchase in state.

2. We find local suppliers, such as yourself, who can provide the same or better quality product to the purchaser at a lower cost. Ideally, we will identify products that are better quality, lower cost, and environmentally preferable.

If you would like to work with us, we will include you in our database of local suppliers that we will continually contact as more purchasers desire to buy local. Our fee structure is negotiable, but typically is less than 1% of each total purchase and can be adjusted on a volume basis. Reduced fee structures are offered to suppliers who provide environmentally preferable products.
